The Trait of Adaptability, not Conformity; The Four Paradigms

After module 2 class today I’ve done some reflection on talking about the four paradigms and cutting chords. I’ve never thought about this deeply as it happened organically years ago, so this is the first time I’m saying it out loud.

When we have these conversations over any of the four paradigms and we want someone to believe a certain way , or they want us to believe a certain way, and we get into these conflicts, neither of us are going to change each other‘s minds, oftentimes ruining friendships… and all we get from it is inner turmoil.

Years ago when I was sick with Lyme disease,

I would get myoclonic seizures from any sort of stress, physical or emotional, that would last up to 30 and 40 minutes, and were very painful and frightening. From stressful conversations, overthinking about my prognosis, or just taking a shower. Over the years I learned to pick my battles, and difficult conversations with others were the first thing I let go of.

If you actually knew it was affecting your health on some level, however big, would you still have this need? Today I thought, what if we all could picture ourselves in these disputes with people, and if you knew you were gonna have a painful seizure, would you still continue these conversations?

Would you still stand in the company of those who drain you, or take your precious time with unnecessary arguments?

Back then my body couldn’t possibly heal while in the presence of anyone who wished me harm, but also those who carried a desperate need to be right or heard, yet I myself was desperate to warn others for their safety. Often to rolling eyes and annoyed faces, I still felt the need to warn them of our corrupt government and how the disease was created on plum Island, just off the coast of Lyme, Connecticut, in Lab 257, for biological warfare , and , how our own government dropped millions of infected ticks over the U.S. and used us like lab rats.

To them, I looked and sounded like a lunatic, as the information was too insane to believe 20 years ago . It didn’t matter that there was proof and books written, if a person doesn’t want to listen , they won’t . Lyme disease IS a political disease and without getting into the particulars, let’s just say I tried to inform others hoping it would help them, and that somehow it was my duty. I learned the hard way that people think exactly what they want, even when presented with facts .

Over time, and many seizures later , I became good at feeling out others and those who need to entertain themselves this way . I found a friend in adaptability, not conformity, and this is why cutting cords with the four paradigms was simple for me now.

The good news is we don’t need a disease to understand that unnecessary stress on any level isn’t good for us.

it’s not that I don’t care it’s that I am a unique individual as we all are, and my opinion is mine alone and I am at peace with it.

My question is , if you knew today that these conversations or other unnecessary stresses would bring on a seizure, would you continue the conversation or behavior?

I think the answer would be no!

My lessons from Lyme have all been very helpful if I search for the ‘through’, and understand the outcome.

For me, cutting cords with the paradigms was easy once it was a matter of health and survival.

The trait of adaptability, not conformity.

Just something to think about.
